History

Congleton Circle was originally formed back in 1961 when our first Chairman, Joyce Collister took the helm. Since then we have gone from strength to strength. Our 48th Chairman, Karen Hogg was inducted on April 22nd 2009 and Karen and her team are currently working hard to put a varied social calendar together for the next 12 months.

Traditionally, Circlers were the wives or partners of Round Tablers or ex Tablers, however in 1993 at our National AGM, Circlers from across the country voted to change this ruling so that Circle could be made open to any woman under the age of 45.

As a circle we all share the responsiblity of organising our calendar of events, thus ensuring that a varied calendar is put together for the year. Our Events Co-ordinator oversees our social diary and ensures that each event has a Circler or team available to organise. Some of our events are just for Circlers and guests, others, such as the Chairman's BBQ are for Circlers and partners/husbands, and we also have several family events during the year such as Children's Halloween and Christmas parties, and last but not least, a couples/family weekend away. As you can see, we try and organise something for everyone !

Ladies Circle supports a number of national charities as well as providing support on a local basis. Each year, volunteers from Circles across our region, including Congleton, provide manpower at the 'Race for Life' events, To date our national organisation has raised over £1.4 million for Cancer Research UK.
